A violent repeat offender seriously assaulted his girlfriend after she poured his whisky down the sink.

Nicole Jarrett was left covered in blood and in a state of extreme distress after being attacked by Conor Munro on September 21 last year.

Staff at the supported accommodation where Munro was living in North Grimsby, Angus, were too frightened for their own safety to confront the 24-year-old.

When police arrived, they found Ms Jarrett standing outside in bloodstained clothes.

Munro admitted assaulting Ms Jarrett to her severe injury and the danger of her life when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He admitted grabbing her by the neck, repeatedly striking her, chasing her, pulling at her face, putting a hand over her mouth and placing her in a headlock in an bid to drag her upstairs.

Munro also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and assaulting police sergeant George Smith by spitting at him.

A sheriff sent his case to the High Court in Edinburgh, which has the power to consider imposing a lifelong restriction order.

A full-risk assessment concluded Munro might not be an enduring threat to public safety.

Lord Ericht told Munro he had subjected Ms Jarrett to "a terrifying attack" and jailed him for three years. He also imposed a 12-month supervised release order.
