A drink-driver was caught after McDonald's staff watched her trying to steer her Mini through their drive-thru while too inebriated to order a takeaway.

Rochelle Orr, described by her lawyer as a "high achiever", took the "irrational decision" to drive from her home to the diner at 3.20am - a distance of just a few hundred metres - after a night out with friends.

Orr, 25, had earlier ordered a taxi back from Stirling city centre, making her choice to drive when she got home "quite bizarre", a court was told on Wednesday.

The court heard staff at the McDonald's called police when they realised Orr was driving while under the influence.

Prosecutor Jennifer Harkins said: "They said that her eyes were glazed, she sounded drunk and they struggled to take her order due to her slurred speech.

"They described her as slumped over her steering wheel, with her eyes almost closed."

Police traced Orr to her home and found her asleep at the wheel of her car.

She failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Stirling Police Station where she gave a breath sample of 98mg of alcohol in 100ml, almost five times the legal limit.

At Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Orr pled guilty to a charge of drink-driving.

The court heard the incident, in November 2016, was her second drink-driving conviction within three years.

Euan Cameron, defending, said his client had given up drinking and handed her car keys to her parents.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson sentenced Orr to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work and banned her from driving for four years.
