Riot police were called to a block of flats after reports of an armed man inside.

Officers in helmets and riot shields attended an incident on Saturday afternoon in Edinburgh after a call from a member of the public.

The city's Albert Street was sealed off at around 1.30pm to deal with a man barricaded inside a flat.

Officers remain at the scene as they work to bring the incident to a "peaceful resolution".

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are currently in attendance at Albert Street following concern for the male occupant of a flat, which was reported around 1.30pm.

"The road is currently closed while officers work to bring this to a peaceful resolution."
