The girlfriend of a man who was killed in a deliberate house fire on New Year's Day remains in a critical condition.

Bex Williams, 24, was found injured following the fire at Achray Place in Milngavie which claimed the life of Cameron Logan.

Police believe the fire was started deliberately in the early hours of the morning and the case is being treated as murder.

Ms Williams, a reporter with Capital and Heart Radio, remains in a critical condition on Tuesday morning at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The blaze broke out at Mr Logan's parents home before 7.25am on Sunday, and his body was discovered inside.

His parents, both aged 54, suffered smoke inhalation during the blaze and the family dog, Gomez, died in the fire.

The young couple had been out celebrating Hogmanay and had returned to Mr Logan's home in the early hours.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective chief inspector Bob Frew, of the Major Investigation Team at Govan Police Office, said on Monday: "Cameron had been out with his girlfriend celebrating Hogmanay and both had returned to his home in the early hours of the morning.

"Later that morning, a fire was set deliberately at the house. Cameron died at the scene. His parents, both 54 years of age, have since been released from hospital, however, his 24 year old girlfriend remains in hospital where medical staff describe her condition as critical.

"Officers are still at the house carrying out enquiries and are also in the area speaking to neighbours and checking CCTV."

He added: "Although it was early on New Year's morning, it's possible that people were about, maybe walking their dogs or out jogging in or near the area. I would appeal to them or indeed anyone who was near Achray Place, who saw activity at the house prior to or after the fire to contact police."

Information can be passed to the Major Investigation Team based at Govan Police Office via 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in confidence.
