A tattoo artist who groomed and abused a string of teenage girls has been handed a life sentence for a second time.

Serial sex offender Paul McLellan was jailed after being convicted of eight offences of sexual assault towards the victims, four of whom were aged 15.

The 46-year-old had been given an order for lifelong restriction order (OLR) in 2013 but the conviction was quashed after appeal judges ruled the jury had been misdirected.

Prosecutors moved for a retrial and he was found guilty again earlier this year.

A number of background reports into McLellan had been completed before the hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday.

McLellan, who had been previously jailed for crimes against girls, was described as a high risk criminal who had a "propensity" to "groom and manipulate".

He was also said to be an "accomplished liar" who believed he had been unfairly targeted by the authorities.

The trial in Edinburgh earlier heard how McLellan admitted illegally tattooing youngsters at a number of addresses in Dundee in 2012 and 2013.

One victim, now 18, recalled how she was molested and left "scared and embarrassed". Another girl told how McLellan exposed himself to her.

He had previously been convicted in England of sex crimes as well as being handed a four year jail-term in Dundee in 2006.

Judge Lord Boyd imposed an OLR on him and ordered that he serve a minimum of four years behind bars.
