Prosecutors have been handed a report into the death of a man after he was taken into police custody.

The 24-year-old man became ill after he was detained by police and taken to Falkirk Police Office on Monday, July 11.

He was transferred to Forth Valley Royal Hospital but died three days later and an investigation was launched into the police's handling of the incident in the lead up to his death.

The Crown instructed police watchdog the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) to launch their own probe into the incident.

PIRC has now handed their report to prosecutors who will decide what action to take.

A PIRC spokesman said: "The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) has now concluded its investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death of a 24-year-old man who became ill after being taken in to custody at Falkirk Police Office on July 11, 2016.

"The man later died in hospital. A report on the PIRC's findings has now been submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS)."
