An eight-year-old girl and a 48-year-old woman have been seriously injured in an incident in Edinburgh, police said.

The girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where she is being treated for her injuries.

Medics at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are treating the woman, whose condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

It is understood both the girl and the woman were stabbed in the incident, which happened around 1.30am on Wednesday at an address in Danube Street.

A police spokeswoman said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances however officers are not currently looking for anyone else at this time."
