A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the discovery of a man's body at a flat in Edinburgh's New Town.

Kieran Davies, 28, appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

He made a brief appearance in private before Sheriff Kevin Drummond QC charged with murder, threatening or abusive behaviour and malicious mischief.

No plea or declaration was made and the case was continued for further inquiry.

Davies, from Barry in Wales, was remanded in custody.

His appearance follows the discovery of the body of a man, believed to be in his mid-20s, in a flat in Scotland Street in the early hours of Friday.
