Rare Harry Potter book with notes by JK Rowling on display
The book features 43 personal notes and drawings by author JK Rowling.
A rare first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is to go on display in Edinburgh, complete with notes from the author herself.
The hardback copy, which features handwritten notes and drawings by JK Rowling, includes a sketch of baby Harry and notes on the origin of the magical sport of Quidditch.
It also features an illustration of the Hogwarts crest featuring a bear rather than a badger for the Hufflepuff mascot.
Edinburgh City Council culture convener Richard Lewis said: "This unique first edition features a remarkable glimpse into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
"In it, JK Rowling opens her heart about her characters and creations and makes beautiful illustrations of magical scenes from the series.
"It is a privilege to display this book by one of the world's most popular authors in the city's Writers' Museum.
"The historic building houses rare books and items belonging to some of Scotland's greatest ever writers and is the perfect place to display JK Rowling's classic, annotated, book."
Featuring 22 original drawings, the original copy was annotated by Ms Rowling in 2013, 16 years after its initial release.
The book was used to raise money for her international charity, Lumos, and English Pen, a global network that promotes literature.
According to the author's handwritten notes, the magical sport Quidditch was invented after Rowling had a fight with her then boyfriend.
The notes also reveal the Hufflepuff house perhaps would have "the respect it deserves from fans" if she had represented it with a bear rather than a badger.
The book will be placed on display at the Edinburgh Writers' Museum on Thursday until January 8.
Mr Lewis added: "We are thankful to the private lender, JK Rowling and the Scottish Book Trust for their generous support."
