Murder investigation after man's body found in flat
Detectives say a weapon may have been used during the incident in Edinburgh.
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in an Edinburgh flat.
The man's body was discovered at 5.30am on Friday after police responded to reports of a disturbance at a property on Scotland Street.
Detectives say the man suffered "very significant injuries" and suspect a weapon may have been used.
Another man in the flat is being treated as a "significant witness" and is helping police with their inquiries.
Two cars outside the flat have been cordoned off with police tape and are forming part of the investigation.
A note inside the windows of the vehicles reads: "Please can you spare some change, I'm homeless or even something to eat, I'm really desperate. Any donations would be appreciated. Thank you and God Bless. Merry Xmas."
Police are currently trying to establish the identity of the victim while a post-mortem is carried out.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
Detective chief inspector Keith Hardie said: "We have found a body in suspicious circumstances, which has sustained significant injuries.
"It is being investigated at the same level as a homicide, although until the result of the post-mortem we cannot commit to this.
"With this in mind it is imperative that we trace those involved in this incident as soon as possible.
"I would urge anyone who was in the Scotland Street area on the morning of Friday, December 2, to get in touch with us immediately."
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
