A 15-stone python has been captured in a remote village in Malaysia after horrified villagers saw it feasting on a goat.

Locals spotted the snake with a bulging belly shortly after it had grabbed one of their farm animals.

The animal slithered away and took refuge in a swamp to digest its meal about 100 metres from the village.

Residents called the emergency services and seven snake handlers spent an hour grappling with the 13-foot (4 metre) long serpent.

Baling district Malaysian Civil Defence Force officer Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said the python was hiding in the dark surroundings.

The python has been handed to the Baling Wildlife and National Parks Department.
