A robber stole a three-figure sum of cash in a raid on a bank in a Perthshire town.

The man robbed the Bank of Scotland in Dunkeld High Street at around 11.30am on Friday.

Staff pressed an alarm to alert police as he fled the building.

Police said they were looking for a suspect who is white, 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build and believed to be in his 20s or 30s

He was wearing a black hooded top with a distinctive red circular motif on the front.

Officers and sniffer dogs have been combing the area for the suspect.

Detective inspector Tom Leonard said: "We want to speak to anyone who was in Dunkeld between 9am and 12pm this morning, who may have information to assist with our enquiries into the robbery.

"A man, aged in his 20s or 30s, entered the bank, demanded cash and left with a sum of money. Although staff at the bank were uninjured, they were naturally distressed by the incident.

"At the time, he was wearing a dark hooded top with a red motif on the chest and blue jeans. He was last seen in the area of St Ninians Gardens."

He added: "Whilst we are appealing for residents, visitors and local business to assist us with information, we are also aware that there were a number of courier companies and delivery vans in Dunkeld at the time.

"We are particularly interested to speak to any drivers with dashboard cameras who may have been travelling in Dunkeld this morning and we would also like to speak to any residents or local businesses with CCTV cameras.

"Anyone with information that could assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer. Information can also be passed anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
