Work on £3.1m Scottish National Curling Centre gets under way
The new facility, aimed at capitalising on Team GB's success in 2014, is being built in Stirling.
The construction of a new £3.1m Scottish National Curling Centre is under way.
The facility in Stirling is aimed at enhancing facilities for the sport and capitalising on interest following Team GB's success at the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, national agency sportscotland said.
On Monday, the roof was raised on to the structure at The Peak in Stirling's Sports Village.
Sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris said: "The Peak has played a crucial role in the terrific success of our curlers on the world stage, including three medals from the Sochi winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2014.
"The National Curling Centre will have a huge part to play in building on that success and securing a lasting legacy for the sport.
" It will provide more and better opportunities not only for our high performance athletes, but critically will allow for increased community use to encourage more people to take up this dynamic sport."
The facility is joint funded, with sportscotland providing £1.4m and Stirling Council providing £1.7m.
Community and regeneration convener Corrie McChord said: "We're very pleased with the progress of the curling centre's construction.
"Stirling Council and sportscotland have worked in close partnership to plan these excellent new ice facilities and develop a comprehensive sports, health and well-being strategy across the Stirling area.
"The national curling centre will not only provide facilities for elite curlers and raise the profile of the sport in Scotland, it will also maximise community access and have long-term benefits for the health and well-being of people of all ages in Stirling.
"We look forward to the completion of this significant addition to the sports village."
