An 80-year-old man is to stand trial accused of strangling a woman in a shopping centre.

Thomas Black is alleged to have attacked Emily Pascal at the Wellgate Centre in Dundee city centre on September 16.

Prosecutors say he kicked the woman on the body, repeatedly seized her by the neck, compressed her airway and caused her breathing to be restricted.

A second charge alleges the pensioner behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm by shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and behaving in a threatening manner.

Black, 80, of Lawside Road, Dundee, denied two charges on summary complaint at Dundee Sheriff Court.

A trial date was set in February and he was ordered to attend a pre-trial hearing two weeks before the trial.
