US forces 'may have committed war crimes in Afghanistan'
ICC prosecutors said that US forces subjected 'at least 61 detained persons to torture'.
Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court have said members of the US armed forces and CIA may have committed war crimes in Afghanistan.
The prosecutors office said in a report that US forces "appear to have subjected at least 61 detained persons to torture" in Afghanistan between 2003 to 2004.
The report adds the CIA might have tortured 27 detainees in the country and elsewhere during the same period.
Prosecutors said they would "imminently" decide whether to seek a full-scale investigation in Afghanistan.
The US is not a member of the court, but citizens could face prosecution if they commit crimes in a country that is a member - including Afghanistan.
