Mother left infant to drown in bath after drinking cider
Robyn Andrews-English, who was 14 months old, died while Jasmine Gregory washed up.
A mother who left her 14-month-old baby to drown in a bathtub while she washed up after drinking two bottles of cider has been jailed for three years.
Jasmine Gregory, 24, left Robyn Andrews-English in the bath alone, where she drowned.
Gregory had drunk two bottles of cider before the incident in August 2014.
The jury at Oxford Crown Court heard that Gregory ran out in the street screaming that she'd killed her baby, and that she'd been doing the washing up when she left Robyn alone.
Earlier that day she'd been visited by an outreach worker who'd warned her not to leave Robyn unattended.
Gregory cried as she was found guilty of both manslaughter and cruelty to a person under 16 years.
Robyn's grandmother said that there are no words to describe how she feels.
She added that Robyn was let down in the worst possible way by the person she should have been able to rely on.
Investigating officer Det Con Andy Matheson, from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit based in Cowley, said: "This has been a tragic case from the start.
"A young mother has lost her young baby and the extended family have lost the future they would have had with the child.
"Jasmine Gregory has never given a full account to police or others of what happened that day and so this has meant Robyn's extended family - grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins - will never really know what led to her death.
"However I am pleased that this tragic case has now reached its conclusion so the family can begin to concentrate on picking up the pieces of their lives at this difficult time.
