Pensioner clocked doing 100mph on high-performance motorcycle
James Shelton, 72, told a court he needs his bike for work and shopping as he lives in rural area.
A 72-year-old motorcyclist was clocked doing 100mph on his high-performance bike.
The elderly biker was caught speeding on a Suzuki SV 650 which has a top speed of nearly 140mph, a court was told.
Perth's Justice of the Peace Court heard James Shelton was speeding on the A90 between Dundee and Perth on July 7.
He has been ordered to appear personally at the court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the speeding charge by letter.
Shelton, of West Fishwick in the Borders, admitted driving his motorcycle at 100mph on the A90 at Moncur in Perthshire.
In a letter to court, he said: "I would ask the court to accept my sincere apologies for what was a singular act of stupidity.
"I have held a clean driving licence for over 40 years and rely on it most days as I am still having to work in order to supplement my modest pension.
"Living in a rural area means I rely on being able to drive or ride my motorcycle for work and shopping."
Justice of the Peace Christine Grant said: "Taking into account the speed he was driving at and his age, I would ask for him to make a personal appearance."
