Drivers warned of M9 disruption due to essential roadworks
Part of the motorway will be closed over the weekend to make way for the project.
A road improvement project will be carried out on one of Scotland's major routes this weekend.
Work will get under way on the southbound M9 in the Falkirk and West Lothian areas on Friday night.
The £500,000 maintenance scheme will benefit an estimated 15,000 drivers every day.
The southbound carriageway will be closed from the Railway Bridge to Sandyford from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.
A contraflow system will be in place on the northbound road, and the Junction 4 southbound on-slip road closed.
Traffic will be diverted northbound on the M9 to Junction 5 and will return from here to re-join the southbound M9.
The work was arranged after a consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, bus operators, West Lothian Council and Falkirk Council.
Other maintenance work is due to be carried out on the A1 next Thursday, with motorists warned that the southbound carriageway between Old Craighall and Wallyford will be closed overnight.
The following day, the main northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed between the Dolphingstone off-slip and on-slip roads to make way for similar works.
Diversions will be in place.
