Members of the public have been warned not to approach a convicted killer who has absconded from an open jail.

Gary Fraser, 36, failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly near Dundee after a period of leave.

He was jailed for eight years in 2011 for the culpable homicide of his brother Andrew in March that year.

Fraser stabbed his brother in the leg with a knife following an argument and then fled the scene.

Andrew Fraser died in hospital two days after the attack.

He was originally charged with the murder of his brother but pleaded guilty to the reduced charge.

At a trial in 2012, Fraser was cleared in relation to a separate alleged assault on a woman at a house in South Kessock, Inverness.

Fraser, who has connections to the Inverness area, was reported missing to police at 6pm on Sunday.

He is 5ft 11in, of a slim build, and is clean shaven with short, dark hair.

Police Scotland advised members of the public not to approach Fraser and instead contact police on 101.

Anyone who wishes to provide information on his whereabouts anonymously can call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
