A man has been charged in connection with an incident in which a three-year-old girl was picked up by a stranger in a supermarket.

A man is alleged to have carried the youngster away near the store entrance but then put her down and she ran back to her mother.

Following an appeal for information a man was arrested by police on suspicion of child abduction.

Detectives have charged Mohmed Dadhiwala, 44, of Chester Street, in Blackburn, with taking a child so as to remove them from a person having lawful control.

He was remanded to appear at Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Monday.
