Emergency services are in attendance at an RAF base in the Highlands amid reports that a soldier has been shot during a live fire exercise.

Police were called to the RAF Tain bombing range, in Ross-shire, at around 5.45pm on Tuesday.

Officers are currently parked at the entrance of the site and surrounding roads have been closed.

The air weapons range, which is used predominately used by aircrews for bombing practice, is located three miles from Tain on the Dornoch Firth,

An Army Spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident at the Tain base, near Inverness.

"We will release more information as and when it becomes available. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this point."
