The public have been warned not to approach a prisoner who has absconded following a period of leave.

Brian Traynor, 37, failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly in Dundee and was reported missing on Wednesday at 2pm.

Police have now launched a search for Traynor, who has connections to the Airdrie and Coatbridge areas.

He is described as being 6ft 1in tall, of a slim build and is clean shaven with short dark hair.

Officers said members of the public should not approach him if they see him but should call police on 101.
