The death of a man at a flat in Aberdeen is being treated as murder by police.

Officers were called to Arnage Place in Mastrick over concerns for 26-year-old man at 5am on Wednesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and an investigation into his death is under way.

Officers carried out enquiries at a property on nearby Willowpark Place later on Wednesday morning.

Police are understood to be following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the death.

Detective inspector Gary Winter, who is leading the investigation, said earlier: "There's no doubt that this incident will cause concern within the community.

"However, I would like to stress that we are treating this as an isolated and contained matter and that at no point did there appear to be any threat to other members of the public. "I would also like to thank the public for their patience while this incident is being dealt with."

He added: "There will be a visible police presence in the area as we continue with our enquiries and I would again ask for the public's patience.

"Our investigation is still at an early stage and I would urge anyone with information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous."
