A large search has been launched for an international student who went missing from his Edinburgh College accommodation overnight.

The 21-year-old man, who has not been named by police as they are trying to to contact his next of kin, was last seen in his halls on Milton Road East late on Monday.

An extensive police search was launched in Duddingston on Tuesday morning.

It is understood that some of his possessions were found during the course of the search.

Onlookers reported seeing the police helicopter circling over nearby Arthur's Seat.

STV News understands that the student had travelled from abroad to study at Edinburgh College.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating a report of a missing 21-year-old man from the Milton Road area.

"He was last seen around 11pm on Monday, October 24, in the student accommodation area of Edinburgh College's campus on Milton Road East.

"The 21-year-old has not been seen since and officers are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

"A number of police resources have been deployed, including the Police Scotland helicopter. Enquiries are currently ongoing."

She invited anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101.
