Brits have been warned to avoid travelling to Florida after two tourists were reportedly diagnosed with the Zika virus.

The two affected, who have not been named, are said to have contracted the virus in the "high-risk" Miami-Dade County.

The area is the state's worst affected region and experts have warned pregnant woman to avoid non-essential travel there.

Dr Lyle Petersen, of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), said: "Our guidance strengthens our travel advice and testing recommendations for pregnant women to further prevent the spread of the infection among those most vulnerable."

Earlier this year the UK issued similar warnings as more Zika cases in the Miami area were confirmed.

The virus has been linked to birth defects - particularly small heads in babies known as microcephaly.
