Police hunting a violent prisoner who absconded from an open jail have issued a fresh appeal to the public.

David Arthur, 31, was last seen on Shore Road in Perth at around 12.30pm on Monday.

He has been convicted of violent offences and police say members of the public should not approach him.

Arthur is serving his sentence at HMP Castle Huntly, a low security open prison near Dundee.

Police say he has connections in the Paisley area and they are conducting enquiries around Greater Glasgow.

He is around 5ft 10in with blue eyes, slim build with short black hair. He was last known to be wearing a grey jumper and dark tracksuit bottoms.

On Tuesday, they issued a renewed appeal to the public to help trace him.

A statement said: "Police Scotland is renewing the appealing for information to assist in the search for David Arthur who has absconded from HM Prison Castle Huntly.

"David Arthur, who was on a temporary period of leave, was last seen in the area of Shore Road, Perth, about 12.30pm on Monday.

"He has family and associates in the Paisley area, with enquiries ongoing there and throughout the wider Glasgow region.

"If seen, members of the public should not approach Arthur and should report all sightings to police immediately via 101.

"Police urge anyone with information on Arthur's whereabouts to dial 101 or leave information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
