Two siblings remain in a serious condition in hospital after a car mounted a pavement, hitting them and killing their toddler sister.

The group were walking along the pavement of the A94 Forfar Road in Coupar Angus when two cars collided at the junction with Larghan Park at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

It is thought one of the vehicles then hit the children.

A two-year-old was killed in the crash, while her five-year-old brother and 17-year-old sister were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said the child's identity would not be released until formal identification had taken place. The family of the victims have been informed and police are appealing for any witnesses.

A spokesman said: "The A94 Forfar Road will remain closed to allow collision investigation to be completed and allow inquiries into the full circumstances of the incident to continue.

"Anyone who has information that could assist officers with their inquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
