Man in serious condition after attack in Glasgow city centre
Victim was attacked in Charing Cross area in early hours of Saturday.
A man is in a serious condition in hospital after an "unprovoked" assault in Glasgow city centre.
The incident took place on North Street, near Sauchiehall Street at Charing Cross, shortly before 3am on Saturday.
The 42-year-old victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University hospital, where doctors say he is in a serious condition.
A large area of North Street, near the Mitchell Library, has been cordoned off as police inquiries continue.
Detectives issued an urgent appeal for witnesses, and said they did not have a description of the suspect at this stage.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Browne of Drumchapel CID, said: "From our early enquiries, this was an unprovoked attack on a man making his way home from a night out.
"The 42 year-old man was punched by another man who then made off in the direction of Sauchiehall Street.
"Our enquiries have been continuing through the night. Officers remain at the scene.
"We have been analysing CCTV and speaking to people who were in the area following the incident."
Witnesses are asked to contact detectives at Drumchapel Police Office on 101.
