Death of man in flat fall investigated by police watchdog
Steven Smeaton, 33, died after police were called to a disturbance at the property in Dundee.
The police watchdog has launched an investigation into the death of a man who fell from a third floor flat following a disturbance.
The body of Steven Smeaton was discovered outside a tenement building in Dundee city centre last month.
At the time of the 33-year-old's death in Forester Street, Police Scotland said his death was being treated as unexplained.
Police had responded to reports of a "disturbance" at the property before the father-of-two's body was found in the street.
On Friday, the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner said it had launched an investigation into Mr Smeaton's death on September 7.
A spokesman for the commissioner said: "The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) is carrying out an investigation following the death of a 33-year-old man outside a residential property in Dundee on September 7, 2016.
"The investigation will focus on Police Scotland's initial response to a disturbance in the vicinity in the hours prior to the man's death.
"The matter was referred by Police Scotland for investigation and a report on the PIRC's findings will be submitted to the deputy chief constable in due course."
