The former home of Stirling Armed Forces Day could be turned into a permanent event space.

Stirling Council has submitted a planning application for a hardstanding area in the north east of the Falleninch Field off Dumbarton Road to host events such as food markets and book fairs.

The council plans to resurface the vehicle access track to connect the existing eastern and southern access points and carry out drainage improvements.

It also wants to create two new pedestrian access points around the field.

In documents supplied to the planning authority, officials said: "There has been a desire after the success of the National Armed Forces Day 2014 to build upon that event to create a space that could cater to other events such as Stirling Agricultural Show, Stirling Highland Games and the forthcoming Stirling Scottish Marathon 2017.

"Feedback obtained from event promoters has provided some direction in relation to onsite facilities and infrastructure that would make the site more appealing to event organisers.

"This includes items such as on-site water supply, improved field drainage, improved access and egress to the Falleninch Field and access road through the field.

"Archaeologists and Historic Environment Scotland will be consulted in relation to any proposed excavations on site as required."
