A motorist has died following a two-car crash in Midlothian.

The accident happened on the A6094 between Leadburn and Howgate, south of Penicuik, at about 1pm on Sunday.

Police said they were alerted by a member of the public.

Fire crews from West Linton, Dalkeith and Penicuik, were sent to the scene.

Police confirmed one motorist had died and appealed for information on the crash.

A section of road between the Leadburn junction and Howgate was closed for several hours while officers carried out a crash investigation.
