Stirling Council has apologised after the rollout of new recycling bins fell behind schedule.

The authority said the contractor responsible for delivering the bins had missed targets leading to "unintended confusion" for residents.

Those affected are now being advised to begin following the new refuse and recycling collection guidelines only after they receive their new bins.

The council said it expects all collections to be up to date by the weekend.

In a statement the authority said: "We're sorry if you have experienced issues with the delivery or collection of your new bins.

"Our teams are working hard to catch up and minimise disruption to this service, which we know is very important to our residents. We're deploying an additional resource where we can to help with this.

"Our Waste Services are going through a period of significant transformational change which includes the roll out of 82,000 new bins, route changes and new working practices for the staff.

"As with all projects of this magnitude, teething problems are inevitable and we would like to thank residents for their patience while we work through these short term issues."
