Scottish MP Chris Law has been detained by police during an investigation into his financial dealings.

The Dundee West SNP MP spoke to officers at a police station in the city on Wednesday.

Their investigation is believed to centre on Mr Law's Spirit of Independence referendum campaign.

An SNP spokesman said: "Mr Law attended a police station to help police with a matter under investigation and provided them with further information.

"He is confident the matter will be resolved. He has not been charged with anything."

Mr Law's Spirit of Independence campaign saw him tour Scotland in a vintage fire engine repainted in the colours of the saltire in the run up to 2014's vote on Scottish independence.

The MP could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: "A 46-year-old man was detained but has been released pending further enquiries."
