A man is in a critical condition after being found with serious head injuries on a Dundee street.

Officers believe the man fell and hit his head on Strathmartine Road at around 11.30am on Monday.

They are searching for two good Samaritans who came to the man's aid after finding him on the street, just north of its junction with Laird Street and Harestane Road.

The man, whose identity has been established by police, was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.

Police do not believe any crime was committed but they are keen to speak to the two members of the public who assisted the man before an ambulance arrived.

The first was a female jogger with a slim build who is around 5ft 6in tall and believed to be in her 40s, and a man believed to be around 50 who is 5ft 10in with an average build and dark hair.

The injured man is 54, approximately 5ft 9in tall with a slim build and short dark hair. He was wearing a black zip up coat, dark jeans and grey shoes.

Anyone who remembers seeing him before the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
