'Mooning' has officially been made a crime in part of Australia.

Baring your bottom in public could land you a two-month jail spell if you're a first-time offender.

And repeat 'mooners' face up to six months behind bars.

The practice has long been used by schoolkids, protesters - and even some celebrities.

Elton John famously flashed his buttocks as Michael Caine's yacht went past.

Comedian David Walliams admitted doing it to Simon Cowell. While Sir Richard Branson, Anne Hathaway and Robbie Williams have all got in on the cheeky act.

The ban was part of an overhaul of sexual offence laws.

Streaking, singing an "obscene song or ballad" and behaving in a "riotous, indecent, offensive or insulting manner" were also outlawed.

But those still feeling the need to moon can head up to Australia's Northern Territory where the practice remains legal.
