The STV Children's Appeal is set to broadcast its sixth live show after a year of fundraising for children living in poverty in Scotland.

Following a week of programming highlighting the work carried out by the Appeal, the annual live show will air on Friday, hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

Lorraine is joined in Glasgow by Sean Batty with links to David Farrell and Jennifer Reoch in Edinburgh, Andrea Brymer in Aberdeen and Louise Cowie in Dundee.

Ewen Cameron and Hayley Matthews will be joined by other well known faces in the phone room to take donations from viewers before Lorraine announces the total sum raised.

Last year the grand total was £2,913,083, a figure that left First Minister Nicola Sturgeon "deeply touched". Details will be on screen all day to let STV viewers know how they can donate.

Lorraine's Big Appeal will highlight how funds raised impact children living below the poverty line, as well as some of the many charities and community projects across Scotland supported by the charity.

Since its birth in 2011, the STV Children's Appeal has raised £8.2m. It was launched by The Hunter Foundation and STV, and has since provided practical help like food and warm clothing, created opportunities for training and employability and enabled social and emotional support.

Lorraine Kelly, trustee of the STV Children's Appeal, said: "It's been another fantastic year for the Appeal and once again we've seen an incredible level of support from communities up and down the country, with people, groups and local businesses getting behind the campaign by organising their own fundraising events and showing huge generosity.

"I'm doing my bit having taken part in the Kiltwalk event in Edinburgh. It's a brilliant opportunity to support such a great cause.

"I'm also looking forward to once again hosting the Appeal live show this year and finding out how much Scotland has raised for children in poverty. Viewers can donate all day on Friday September 23, so please help us make a real difference in the lives of Scotland's children."

Over the last year fundraisers have been held across the country for the Appeal, from Say It Ain't Sew's weekly sewing classes to a battle of the bands competition held at the Clutha bar in Glasgow.

Many generous Scots took part in the 18th annual Pedal for Scotland, cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh for sponsorship.

Meanwhile STV staff have also been doing their bit to fundraise, from weather presenter Sean Batty running, cycling and walking 169-miles, to a rowing race between news and sport anchors John MacKay and Raman Bhardwaj on the Clyde, all captured in a programming series over the last week.

The series also included the hard-hitting documentary Who Cares, which dissected Scotland's "broken" care system which currently looks after 15,404 children.

Who Cares? Scotland, a leading voluntary organisation and advocate for the rights of children in care, calls for a "serious overhaul" of Scotland's care system in the programme.

You can catch Who Cares on the STV Player.

Tune into STV at 8pm for the start of Lorraine's Big Appeal, and again at 9pm following Coronation Street, for the grand total reveal.
