An elderly dementia sufferer missing in Glasgow may have got on a bus, according to police.

Edward Keenan, 84, who has vascular dementia, left his home in Broomfield Road, Sprinburn at 9.50am on Thursday.

He was last seen getting off a bus on Wallacewell Road at around 10am with the intention of taking another bus to Hillington.

Police say he has gone missing before but does not usually venture far.

He is described as white, 5ft 5in, balding with grey hair and a scar on his neck. He was wearing a black leather jacket, brown cord trousers and black shoes. He walks with a limp and uses a walking stick.

Inspector Brian McGeogh, of Shettleston Police Office, said: "There was a confirmed sighting of Mr Keenan just after 10am this morning on Wallacewell Road getting off a bus with the intention of getting the number 57 to Hillington.

"We have circulated his description to bus companies and have officers in both Springburn and Maryhill checking CCTV and on patrol looking for him.

"There was a possible sighting of him at Springburn Shopping Centre earlier and officers are checking there as well around his home address."

He added: "Mr Keenan has been missing a couple of times before but is usually traced locally. He doesn't normally venture too far from his home so that fact that he may have got on a bus and not let family know where he's gone, is of concern.

"I would ask that people keep look out for him and if anyone sees him, then please contact police via 101."
