A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a 50-year-old woman who was found seriously injured in St Andrews at the weekend.

Elizabeth Bowe was discovered in a property on Bobby Jones Place in the town on Saturday.

She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

On Monday, Charles Gordon appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm.

Police confirmed they are now treating the case as a murder inquiry.

Detective inspector Rory Hamilton said: "This is a tragic loss and our thoughts and condolences are with Elizabeth's loved ones.

"This investigation is now being treated as a murder inquiry and it will continue to be led by detectives from the major investigations team.

"A 51-year-old man has been arrested and appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with the incident. He has been remanded to custody.

"Anyone with information that can assist our enquires is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
