A woman has died as a result of a fire in Stirlingshire.

The incident happened at around 7.20am on Sunday at a flat in Marshall Street, Grangemouth.

Fire crews from Falkirk and Bo'ness attended the scene and extinguished the fire, which originated in the living room of the property.

Firefighters were able to recover the woman from the flat but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to attend a flat fire in Grangemouth earlier this morning.

"Edinburgh control received a call at 7.39am reporting smoke at a block of flats in Marshall Street, Grangemouth.

"Fire appliances from Falkirk and Bo'ness attended the fire.

"Crews in breathing apparatus used two hose-reel jets to put out the fire that was located in the living room.

"One female casualty was rescued from the property but sadly she died at the scene. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

"A joint investigation between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland in the case of the fire will take place in due course."
