A teenage boy had sex with a 13-year-old girl at a college campus in Dundee after contacting her on social media app Snapchat.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons and was convicted for a similar offence in 2015, pleaded guilty to a charge under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act.

On Thursday, Dundee Sheriff Court heard the victim told her mother what had happened the day after the incident in the city on June 7 .

The accused had originally met the girl through a mutual friend in 2015, before he contacted her this year.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court: "He has a previous conviction from the High Court in 2015 for an offence committed when he was 14 and the complainer was 12.

"He was given a community payback order for that offence and was still subject to that at the time of this offence.

"The complainer in this case met him through mutual friends in 2015 but there was no contact between them until June 2016 when he added her on the Snapchat social networking app.

"On June 6, he sent her a message asking to meet up that night. She refused but they met the following day.

"They chatted for some time and he was immediately affectionate towards her, kissing and cuddling her."

The court heard they then had sex on a grassy area outside the Dundee and Angus College campus in Gardyne Road, Dundee, before the 17-year-old stood up and said he had to leave.

Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports and remanded him in custody meantime.
