Twitter users will be able to pack more into their 140-character tweets from 19 September, according to reports.

In May, it was reported the social network planned to stop counting pictures and links in the limit - allowing more words to be fitted into tweets.

A link currently takes up 23 characters, while a picture takes up 24.

The new rules are set to be rolled out on 19 September, according to The Verge.

Polls, videos and GIFs will also no longer count towards the limit.

While Twitter declined to comment on the reported date, co-founder Jack Dorsey told The Verge in May the changes were designed to give users the "full expressiveness of the 140 characters".
