A group of men believed to be carrying "bladed weapons" are occupying a Sikh temple in Leamington Spa.

Warwickshire Police said between 20 and 30 men entered the temple shortly after 6.45am on Sunday morning, and officers are currently inside the temple along with religious leaders attempting to negotiate a peaceful resolution.

Armed officers have been sent to the Gurdwara Temple in the town and have erected police cordons around it. They have asked people to avoid the area while the dispute is ongoing.

Warwickshire Police are treating the incident as aggravated trespass and it is thought to be the escalation of an ongoing local dispute.

Police stressed that it is not being treated as a terrorist incident.
