Scotland's Stef Reid has claimed silver in the T44 long jump at the Paralympic Games in Brazil.

The five-time world record holder secured second place at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Friday with a jump of 5.64m.

Reid was beaten to gold by France's Marie-Amelie le Fur who set a new Paralympic record with her 5.83m jump.

The latest win takes Scotland's Paralympic medal haul to two after swimmer Andrew Mullen took bronze in the 200m freestyle S5 on Thursday.

Speaking from Rio, sportscotland chief executive, Stewart Harris, said: "What a brilliant performance from Stef Reid in the long jump T44 to win the first athletics medal for ParalympicsGB in Rio.

"It took a world record to beat her, so Stef should be very proud of her silver medal to add to her sprint silver from Beijing in 2008 and long jump silver from London four years ago.

"Stef's commitment and determination are key to her success. She is an incredible role model, inspiring others to be the best that they can be and leading by example."
