Ryan Lochte accepts 10-month ban after false robbery claim
The swimmer is banned from next year's world championships and will forfeit £75,000 in bonus money.
Ryan Lochte has accepted a 10-month ban after giving an embellished account of being robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazilian police said no such crime took place and that Lochte was in fact responsible for vandalising a petrol station as he came home drunk from a party.
The US Olympic gold medallist is banned from swimming until next June and will forfeit the $100,000 (£75,000) bonus money he was awarded for his success at Rio 2016.
The ban also includes next year's world championships.
Lochte will receive no monthly funding from the US Olympic Committee (USOC) and USA Swimming, and must complete 20 hours of community service.
He will also be unable to access USOC training centres, and will miss Team USA's post-Olympics visit to the White House.
Fellow swimmers Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen, who were with Lochte at the petrol station agreed to four-month suspensions.
They will also be stripped of funding and access to training.
Last month, Lochte was charged after his false claim, and also lost a number of lucrative sponsorship deals over the fiasco.
