There were reports that the local Brewster County police believe there could be two gunman on the run, though this has not been confirmed.
A spokesman for Brewster County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the reports.
Medical workers said they were caring for "three victims" after the incident.
Elizabeth Carter, a lieutenant with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said someone brought a gun onto the Alpine High School campus Thursday morning.
Ruth Hucke, a spokeswoman for Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine, confirmed the number of patients but declined to give any further details on their condition.
When asked if the victims had been shot, she said she "can't say anything further."
