A care worker who put a vulnerable child in a headlock has been struck off.

Sean Bennett put his arms around the neck of a girl, aged under 16-years-old, and wrestled her to the floor while employed as a residential care worker in Angus.

The action resulted in an uncontrolled descent to the floor and put the girl at risk of harm, the Scottish Social Services Council ruled.

After a two day hearing the SSSC took the decision to remove him from the register of care workers.

In its report the sub-committee said: "You wrapped your arm around AA's neck. The sub-committee considered this was contrary to your training and wholly inappropriate.

"Wrapping your arms around AA's neck was unacceptable behaviour and placed AA at risk of harm."

It noted Bennett had been given five day training in Crisis Aggression Limitation Management (CALM) on two occasions and his actions were contrary to any techniques he had been shown.

The report added that while on the floor Bennett had struggled with the girl and compressed her chest, which it found was a "dangerous course of conduct."

It stated: "There was a potential for serious harm. It considered that this was a grossly reckless act in disregard for the safety of AA.

"You have demonstrated a lack of regret and lack of insight. You have not accepted your conduct was inappropriate. You have not shown remorse.

"As a result of your lack of insight there is a serious risk of repetition of misconduct."
