Mother of MP Jo Cox speaks for first time about her daughter
Jean Leadbetter said her daughter would have 'loved' a Hope Not Hate event organised in her memory.
The mother of Jo Cox has spoken for the first time about her daughter.
Jean Leadbetter said Jo would have been so proud of the way communities in Batley have come together since her murder.
Jean and her other daughter Kim were attending a Hope Not Hate day in the town, organised in Jo's memory.
Jean Leadbetter said her daughter would have loved the event.
She said: "Jo would have adored this. Being in the community mixing with lots of different people. It's absolutely wonderful".
Hundreds of people turned out to honour the MP in her former constituency of Batley and Spen.
Kim Leadbetter also paid tribute to her sister at the event.
"Jo would have loved it - the community that she loved, coming together to celebrate our diversity, our differences, but actually all the things that we have in common," she said.
The theme of the day, organised by the group Hope Not Hate is "More in Common", reflecting the work of Jo Cox, who was murdered on June 16th this year.
