Bashfulness has never been a hindrance to seven-year-old Aaron MacGregor.

The dynamic young actor is equally comfortable performing solo for a theatre-packed with adults as he is playing out scenes from his favourite musicals in his bedroom.

As one of the youngest performers in Dunfermline's Alhambra Theatre Stage School, Aaron practices a range of performance arts six days a week, from singing and stage acting to hip hop and acro dance.

His pitch perfect vocals saw him cinch a starring role in the theatre's production of The Lion King as Simba, his most significant performance to date.

That is, until he was picked up by the Russian State Opera.

On Saturday September 3, Crossgates Primary pupil Aaron will share a stage with world-class opera singers in Giacomo Puccini's Madam Butterfly.

Set in Nagasaki, Japan to the tune of a doomed love affair, the century-old show is one of the most colourful and exotic operas. Aaron will appear in the later acts as Madam Butterfly's son, dressed as a young sailor, for a 1500-strong crowd.

The touring production reaches out to local theatre groups for young volunteers to fill the role - one Alhambra staff knew Aaron was perfect for.

His mother Ashley, who works as a police officer in Fife, admits the significance of the casting hasn't fazed him in the slightest.

She said: "I'm just over the moon and the family have all got tickets. Aaron is really excited about dressing up in a sailor suit, but I wouldn't say he knows it's any different to other shows he's been in.

"I'm not so much nervous because he just pulls things off. I was nervous for his last solo which was a really busy show, but he managed it fine."

Aaron, who will be auditioning for The Voice come Sunday, has been performing for friends and family "ever since he could move", according to Ashley.

An array of costumes are packed under his bed, allowing the primary pupil to transform from Peter Pan to pirate and Disney prince to New York gangster.

If he doesn't have an ensemble for the role he wants to play, he'll make it himself.

He also thrives in memorising songs from his favourite film soundtracks from YouTube, be it Shrek, The Lion King and Frozen - the latter of which he performs with his young sister Millie.

Aaron's love for the stage stems back to seeing the Singing Kettle live for the first time, which prompted him to join the Alhambra Theatre Stage School at age six.

In addition to regular drama classes, the Dunfermline collective supports young people looking to further a career in the arts industries.

"Aaron's confidence has just grown since joining the Alhambra stage school", said Ashley.

"He's full of energy all the time and the first thing he'll say in the morning is 'What have I got on tonight mum?'

"Millie is without a doubt inspired by her big brother and she's now at the stage school too. Every time he has a show the whole family go, all 15 of us."
