A dog had a lucky escape after becoming stuck in a hole only big enough for its head.

The canine, dubbed "Nikki", went missing after going in search for food along a canal.

It later emerged that her head had become stuck in the hole of a tunnel, barely bigger than her neck.

Struggling under Peru's harsh sun, locals gave Nikki water as residents worked out a rescue plan.

She was finally freed after locals dug and drilled a big enough hole around where she was trapped.
