Amazon to pilot 30-hour work week for select employees
The trial will allow a small team of employees to receive the same benefits as 40-hour week staff.
Amazon.com will soon launch a pilot scheme with a 30-hour work week for select employees.
The trial will allow a small team of employees to work 30-hours a week and receive the same benefits as 40-hour workers.
They will only receive 75% of the pay that 40-hour a week workers earn.
Amazon currently employs part-time workers that share the same benefits as full-time workers.
However, the entire team on the pilot scheme, including managers, would work reduced hours.
The pilot scheme was reported by The Washington Post, which is owned by Amazon chief executive Jeffrey P. Bezos.
"We want to create a work environment that is tailored to a reduced schedule and still fosters success and career growth," the company posted in a statement online.
The pilot scheme will consist of a few dozen employees who will work Monday to Thursday from 10am to 2pm, with the possibility of flex hours.
These teams will work on tech products within the human resources department.
